Washed Grass

Dieses Bild ist mein aktuelles Lieblingsbild, denn es steht für die vielen Einflussfaktoren, die ein - meiner Meinung - gutes Bild ausmachen. Der perfekte oft sehr kurze Moment idealen Lichts, Brillanz der Farbe und Glück oder viel Geduld für das Einfangen des Motivs. Hier ist es Pramort nach dem Gewitter - die Front zieht weiter auf die Ostsee, die Sonne beleuchtet die satten Salzwiesen, sauber gewaschen von dem heftigen Schauer.
Hinzu kommt bei diesem Foto, dass es zweieinhalb Jahre brauchte, um in meinen Fokus zu geraten. Hier ergeht es dem Fotografen genau wie dem Betrachter: jedes Werk ist auch abhängig von der Rezeptionssituation und dem aktuellen Erfahrungshorizont.

This image is currently my favourite as it stands for all the factors that make a good photograph – in my opinion. The perfect but very short moment of ideal lighting, the depth of colour and sheer luck or a lot of patience to capture the motif. Here it is Pramort following a thunder storm – the weather front is moving out to the Baltic Sea, the sun lights up the lush salty marsh, clean from the heavy downpour.
Add to that it took two and a half years for this photograph to come to my attention. Sometimes the observer suffers the same fate as the photographer – every creation is dependent upon its conception and the current horizon.

Vier Farben Blau - Four Colours Blue

Blick über den Libbertsee am Darßer Ort. Salz- und Süßwasser mischen sich im See und kreieren – verstärkt vom Lichteinfall - die unterschiedlichsten Blautöne. Schilf und Gras, Erde und Sand geben Kontrast und verbinden zugleich die Gewässer. Die Landschaft ist im Frühjahr mit noch sehr schräg stehender Sonne so malerisch, was mich bei der Bearbeitung inspirierte.

The view over Libbertsee in Darsser Ort. Salt and fresh water mix in the lake and create a variety of blue colours enhanced by the light. Reeds, grass, soil and sand give a contrast and connect with the bodies of water. What inspired me during processing/editing is the spring landscape made picturesque by the steep angle of the sun.

BSS #1 - Die Flut - The Tide

Der ursprüngliche Titel war "Die Flut". Für mich ist diese Perspektive typisch für St. Peter Ording. Die meisten wählen die Pfahlbauten als Motiv – aber dieser Platz, unweit des Seestegs fasst für mich die einzigartige Landschaft zusammen. Salzwiesen, Priel, die ausgedehnte Sandbank und das Meer – dezent im Hintergrund. Die Wischtechnik lässt die Komponenten noch mehr verschmelzen, ohne dass sie ihre Eigenständigkeit verlieren.
Lange stand dieses Werk allein, doch mittlerweile bildet es die Basis für die Reihe „Blurred Sea Series“, kurz BSS.

The original title was ‘The Tide’. This vista is to my mind typical for St Peter Ording. The most popular motif is the stilt houses. For me this place, not far from the pier, sums up this unique landscape. Salty marshes, tideway, a distended sandbank and the sea – unassuming in the background. The wipe technique lets the components amalgamate further without loss to the individual items. This creation used to stand alone but now forms the basis for the range ‘Blurred Sea Series’, short BSS.

BSS #2 - Baltic Salt Marsh

Dieses Bild ist Teil der Reihe BSS. Es ist das zweite Werk (nach der Flut), das ich als Motiv so vorfand und anschliessend entsprechend bearbeitete. Seitdem ich Gursky's "Rhein II" kenne, wundere ich mich, wer dafür 3,1 Mio. Euro zahlt.
Ich arbeite weiter an meiner Reihe...

This image is part of the BSS. It is the second creation (following The Tide) which I processed in the same vein. I wonder who pays EUR 3.1 million for Gursky’s ‘Rhine II’? Work on BSS continues...

BSS #3 - Pastell - Pastel

Das dritte Werk meiner Reihe Blurred Sea Series. Es dauerte einige Zeit, bis ich mich von den kräftigen Farben und der Dominanz der Blau- und Grün-Töne trennen konnte. Vielleicht unterliege ich aber auch einfach nur dem Zeitgeist und der ist derzeit nun mal Pastell.
Die Wischtechnik betont hier die bleierne Schwere, die das Meer an diesem schwülen Abend im Frühsommer tatsächlich auf mich ausstrahlt.

The third creation in my BSS. It took some time for me to break free of the strong colours and dominating blue and green hues. Perhaps I have succumbed to the Zeitgeist which is currently only in pastel. The wipe technique emphasises the leaden weight projected on me by the sea on that muggy early summer evening.

Dreimal Wind - Wind Triplicate

Eine Hommage an den Hovawart, dessen Wurzeln bis ins Mittelalter reichen. Ein Tier mit starker Persönlichkeit, der Wächter von Haus und Hof. Hier sehen wir ihn als „Strand-Wart“.
Was mich jedoch eigentlich zu dem Foto motiviert hat, ist dreimal Wind: in Wolke, Strandhafer und Fell.

A homage to the Hovawart whose roots go back to the middle ages. An animal with a strong personality, a guard of house and land, here as ‘beach guard’. My motivation was to capture the wind in triplicate – clouds, beachgrass and fur.

Leaden Waves

Leaden Waves - Bleierne Wellen
Für mich eine typische Abendstimmung an der Nordsee. Der Tag klingt aus, die Stimmen gedämpft, die Menschen sammeln ihre Sachen zusammen, ein letzter Blick aufs Meer. Ruhe.
Auch die Wellen werden langsamer.

To my mind, the typical evening ambience at the North Sea. The day is on its way out, voices are muted, people gather their belongings, one last glance at the sea. Peace. Even the waves slow down.

Die Schwäne verraten es. Es ist nicht der indische Ozean oder die Karibik, auch nicht an der australischen Gold- oder Westcoast.

The swans give the game away. It is not the Indian Ocean or the Caribbean, nor the Australian Gold Coast or west coast. It is the Baltic. Unbelievable colours. Swans at Pramort, Zingst.

Water Lounge

Ameland ist wegen seines besonderen Lichteinfalls und seiner Landschaft schon lange ein beliebter Aufenthaltsort von Künstlern. Im November 2013 war das Licht oft perfekt zum Fotografieren!
